Log
I got to go stay at the Nugget Cabin by myself for a weekend recently. There was already about 3 feet of snow at the cabin when I got there.
That saturday I drove up to Molas Pass and went snowshoeing. There was about 5 feet of snow up there! I parked at the Molas Trail head and started hiking, breaking a new trail in the deep powder. I still had my track in my GPS from the Garfield Lake trip last summer, so I decided to follow it to get a winter perspective on where I had been
Everything looks totally different under 5 feet of snow! I tried following the track exactly, but in the snow, it seems like there is a faster way to get to point B. I wish I would have taken a photo of the Weminuche Wilderness sign on the Garfield trip. That would really give a perspective of how deep the snow is! Guess I'll do it next summer.
Not a long trip, just hiked about half an hour and found a seat on a rock. Ate a little bit and did some thinking. The solitude and quiet of a still winter afternoon can't be beat.
It started snowing on sunday morning. By the time I left in the afternoon, there was about 5 inches of new snow. The next day I checked the snow report and that storm left over 2 feet of new snow. The next week another storm left over 3 feet of snow. I'm anxious to get back up there for a day long expedition.
